Tips for protecting your personal information:
  • Never give out your Social Security Number, bank account numbers or Personal Identification Numbers over the phone or on the Internet.
  • Always use a credit card and NOT a debit card when ordering items over the Internet or phone.
  • First Bank, as well as other financial institutions, will never contact you to verify your Social Security Number, Account Numbers, Personal Identification Numbers (PIN), or account balances. We already have this information; we do not need to verify them.
  • Do not be fooled by e-mails asking you to respond with personal information; even if they state that there has been some illegal activity on your account. The emails may appear to be legitimate, but they are not. Do not give out your information, period!
  • Do not carry your Social Security Card in your purse or wallet. If you lose it, this number is the key to your credit history. Keep the card in a safe place and only take it with you when you actually need it. Such as when you open a new deposit account or sign up for government benefits.
  • If you believe that you have been the victim of Identity Theft or Fraud you should do the following immediately:
    • Contact your local law enforcement authorities and fill-out a police report. Keep a couple of copies of this report for your records.
    • Contact the financial institutions where you have your deposit accounts and report the fraud. You should close all existing accounts and open new ones with new account and PIN numbers. Bring a copy of your police report to the bank for their records. The Bank will also require you to complete an Identity Fraud / Theft Affidavit.
    • Contact the Credit Reporting Agencies and report the fraud or theft and provide them with a copy of the completed ID Fraud / Theft Affidavit. These Credit Reporting agencies will insert a Fraud Alert on your credit history to make it harder for criminals to use your information to open new credit accounts. The following websites contain information from the Credit Reporting Agencies concerning your credit reports and identity fraud:
